Is A RIF Coming to Jeju - More Evidence?

A friend who teaches for the Education Office told me something interesting today.

Apparently, an e-mail was sent out to the teachers from the Ivory Tower. While most of it had to do with basic items such as schedules and such, there was an interesting sentence:

Members of a provincial assembly keep raising a question of whether native teachers work enough as much as we pay.

Now, this could be the usual "All foreigners are lazy and overpaid" mantra we've all heard. Or, it could be evidence that serious questions are being asked regarding the return on investment (ROI) Jeju is receiving from having the current number native speaker teachers in schools and language centers.

As someone who never fails to see the black cloud in a clear blue sky, I believe it to be the latter.

I have said previously that I think a Reduction in Force (RIF) is coming to Jeju, just like it came to Seoul.

I recommend that those who work for the Jeju government, teaching in schools or language centers, start preparing for life after Jeju. It may come quicker than you think or want.

Although a RIF would not affect me personally, it would affect some of my acquaintances and, most importantly I believe, the children of Jeju.
