That Didn't Take Long....

Well, it seems the benevolent dictatorship of Obama/Democrats is already in the works. I know this doesn't have much to do with Jeju Island but when I see disturbing things brewing in my own country I have to comment.

From the paper today I read an AP article with some intersting information for all Americans that believe in representative government:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081109/ap_on_go_pr_wh/obama#full

From the article: "Obama to use executive orders for immediate impact"

"There's a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we'll see the president do that,"

and this:

"Obama's advantage of course is he'll have the House and the Senate working with him, and that makes it easier," said Carl Tobias, a law professor at the University of Richmond.

and this:

Executive orders "have the power of law and they can cover just about anything," Tobias said in a telephone interview.

So, Obamites wanted change. Well, I guess it's coming. As I said before, be careful what you wish for, you might just get it. In this case a benevolent dictator with a rubber stamp Congress. Good job America. I guess many people forgot something called "Checks and Balances" that was supposedly built into our system of government.

Oh, and for those people who can't see beyond the cult of personality that has developed around the new President, let me say that I am NOT an Obamite, nor am I a McCainian. I am an American that sees tinkeering with, and circumventing of, our system of government, by anyone, in the name of "Hope" and "Change" as extremely disturbing.

(For some reason my hyperlink thingy doesn't want to work this morning. You can look up the article using the title on Yahoo News)

It's a little late to worry about abuse of presidential executive orders--Bush has used them in some fairly restrictive and backwards ways, with hardly a word of protest from the American people.

But that doesn't mean Obama gets a free pass, either, even from his legions of supporters (of which I am one).

Hello Kangmi:

How's the Korean language study going?

About your comment, it would be very easy and accurate to counter that Bush learned everything he knew about executive order abuse from his predecessor Clinton - no outrage there either. But that is not the issue.

The cult of personality that has developed around Obama will, in my opinion, give him just what you say it won't, a free pass. It is funny but the only people starting to see this in the media is the foreign press. I have read several articles lately in foreign English speaking newspapers talking about the viewing of Obama, by many in America as some kind of savior, that can or will do no wrong - and how that will inevitably lead to problems and abuses in the future.

As a staunch independent, free from ideologicsal blindness and the "anybody but Bush" foolishness, I don't like what I see happening in America in the future.

Thanks for the comment.
